The power of the Internet was on full display Sunday as hundreds of people rallied in Kelowna to protest the violent arrest of a local man who was filmed being kicked in the head by a police officer.

Just an hour before the protest, Abbotsford police recommended that Kelowna RCMP Const. Geoff Mantler be charged with assault causing bodily harm.

With a viral video of what appears to be a police officer kicking Buddy Tavares in the head becoming a runaway international Internet sensation, police made an amazingly quick decision to recommend that Mantler face criminal charges.

At a news conference held Wednesday with the RCMP, Linda Bush said that she is abandoning the lawsuit in connection with the death of her son, Ian Bush, because of changes the force has undertaken.

The B.C. Civil Liberties Association and Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs are calling for the release of an RCMP video showing a man who died shortly after being Tasered while into custody in Prince George.

Clayton Alvin Wiley, 33, was arrested on July 21, 2003 for creating a public disturbance. He died at Prince George Regional Hospital on July 22 after having a heart attack.
